If you hit 2 or more bubbles of the same color as the one you shoot, they will pop! Any bubbles that are no longer attached to the ceiling will fall.
Remember to use the special lightning bonus bubbles, which pop large numbers of bubbles at once. Your main goal is to progress through the levels and push the bubble ceiling as far as possible to maximize your score before running out of bubble shots.
